Happy news

On Jan 25th, my Man asked me to be his wife. Of course I said yes. We’re so happy!!

No date has been set as yet, because we have to move house in the next 6 months. The house we’re renting as been sold and the new owners want to move in when our lease terminates.

I’m still on the hunt for unusual places to get married, or a beautiful garden somewhere.

Manual for step-parents

I wish there was a manual one could buy about being a step-parent to teenagers (boys). I swear I put my foot in it all the time when I speak my mind and feelings without thinking first.

A brief history: 8 months ago I met my partner and his two teen sons. Four months later he moved to Melbourne from northern Victoria, lock stock and barrel, to be with me. His sons wanted to live with him, so I have an instant family (I never had kids of my own, and now I’m in my late 30’s, don’t want them). My partner is The One, his sons are great, but sometimes, with the older son, the attitude is a bit hard to take. Usually I speak my mind whenever someone upsets me, but is that such a good thing when dealing with a teenage boy? So I wind up feeling like a total screw-up. I end up questioning myself, and doubting how my partner sees me once I’ve upset his son.

I think in future I’ll be keeping my thoughts, feelings and opinions to myself and leave it to my partner and his sons to sort out, raised voices, frustrations and all. I’m better off to remain quiet and speak when asked to, lest I end up speaking disrespectfully to any of them.

I’ve never been in this situation before, so it’s a bit of a struggle to adapt. I guess it is for them too.

Things one does for love…..

Unusual wedding locations?

I’m looking for wedding venues with a difference (eg: jails, graveyards, pubs with nice beer gardens, etc). Did you get married at an unusual location? What was it like?

I listen to Rockabilly and Psychobilly music, go see bands that plays those styles of music, I enjoy reading, playing scrabble, admiring tattoos, a beer or three, playing pool, Rock'n'Roll dancing. I'm a cricket tragic and have deep respect for people who served our country in war, those who never came back and those who did.
